In the season when the Gates of the Underworld are said to open, ghosts are said to return to the mortal world, and it seems our home was no exception. To my surprise, the spirits found their way back into our world, and, of all places, they decided to inhabit my bag of marshmallows. The colorful and sweet marshmallows became vessels for these mischievous spirits, transforming them into Sweet Candy Ghosts.
At first, it was all fun and games. I’d reach for a marshmallow, and one of the Candy Ghosts would playfully protest, adding a touch of whimsy to my day. It was as if they were guarding their newfound sugary realm with a mix of charm and mischief.
But as the days went by, the Sweet Candy Ghosts became bolder. They’d rearrange the marshmallows into amusing shapes and patterns, forming their own little ghostly art installations. If I attempted to eat one, they’d gently scold me, their translucent figures glowing with a hint of reprimand.
With time, I grew fond of these spirited little beings. We struck up a silent understanding – I would let them play, and they would let me enjoy my marshmallows in peace. It became a delightful daily routine, like a magical tea party with spectral guests.
As the Oni-no-Mon (Gate of the Underworld) drew nearer to closing, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness. The thought of bidding farewell to the Sweet Candy Ghosts was bittersweet. But I knew that it was only natural for them to return to their ethereal realm once more.
On the night of their departure, the Sweet Candy Ghosts seemed to glow even more brightly, filling the room with a gentle, warm light. They gathered one last time around the marshmallow bag, seemingly expressing gratitude for the sweet moments we shared together.
As the clock struck midnight, the Sweet Candy Ghosts slowly faded away, returning to their realm beyond the mortal world. But in their place, they left behind sweet memories and a heartwarming tale that I would cherish forever.
And so, the chapter of the Sweet Candy Ghosts came to an end, but their enchanting presence lingered in my heart. As the next year’s Oni-no-Mon approached, I couldn’t help but anticipate the return of more delightful spirits and the magical adventures they would bring into my life once more.
